A small glossy-greenish bird with a heavily barred throat, chest and tail. Lacks the dark stripe through the eye seen in Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoo, and typically occurs in wetter and denser forest than Horsfield's. Often calls with a fast repeated rising whistle (2 whistles per second), but also mixes in phrases with a rougher and slower falling whistle (1 whistle per second).
