A large waterbird with a bulbous lump on the top of its head. Its plumage is black and white, with an all-black neck and striking orange legs and feet. Often seen in very large and noisy flocks. They are typically found in and around wetlands, pastures and orchards across northern Australia. This species also perches in trees and on branches. It has a soft honking calls that it makes frequently, including in flight.
