Fairly common. Breeds on northern moorland, usually near small lakes; migrants occur in varied wetland habitats. Usually seen as singles or small groups. Feeds mainly by striding in water, picking and sweeping with its bill. Slightly larger and rangier than Common Redshank. Note overall grayish plumage with white belly and greenish legs. In flight appears dark above with broad white stripe up middle of back.
