Details: A locally vagrant immature Brahminy Kite was lethargically gliding above Freeman Avenue Reserve and, more generally, Jewfish Bay from 5:23pm to 5:30pm. Throughout the period of observation the Brahminy Kite was carrying some small fish, perhaps an eel, from which it repeatedly ripped and consumed portions––that is, whilst in flight. Surprisingly, the Brahminy Kite appeared to attract the attention of the resident Noisy Miners which intermittently issued alarm calls. Notable also was that the Brahminy Kite at times glided backwards with some speed in the healthy westerly breeze that has been persistently blowing across the region. There are no prior records of the species in the lower Georges River area.
