after fine misting in mid-morning, sunlight finally shining through; most of sky still covered with cloud, but increasingly clear to N.

    Comments: spotted from gazebo, stalking along edge of saltmarsh on north side of creek, observed carefully through binoculars: the neck two-toned, tawny-brown on upper surface and white below, together making for a sinuous swirl; the dorsum a faded tawny-rust merging into a light bluish-grey tail, with short white wing-bars and yellow legs; all these features correspond exactly to photos of immature tricolored herons found online; same bird spotted several days earlier in the same location
