For the Field

Block Boundary Awareness

  • The eBird app now displays block boundaries (for more details on this feature, please watch this video, courtesy of NYBBAIII).
    • The app now provides an alert when you are within a certain distance of a block boundary.
    • Regularly check and make sure you’re using the most current version of their app!
  • You can also visit our block sign-up map (blocksignup.ncbirdatlas.org) and download georeferenced pdf maps for each priority block.  We recommend using the Avenza Maps smartphone app, which lets you see where you are in the field without the Internet or network connections. The free version allows you to upload 3 maps at a time.
      • Watch video tutorials for adding these maps to iPhone and Android.
      • If more convenient, you can download the georeferenced pdf maps directly from Google Drive here:
  • Lastly, we offer kmz files that can be used in various mobile apps, such as Google Earth, Avenza Maps, or Guru Maps.
    • ncba_priority_blocks.kmz – each priority block is separate feature, which creates a larger file size but can add additional capabilities, such as searching by block name in Guru or Avenza Maps.
    • ncba_priority_blocks_dissolve.kmz – all blocks have been dissolved into a single feature, which reduces file size but may limit some uses.
