Checklist Comments

Overcast, mid-50s F, no wind. I arrived at the High St parking lot to find a crowd, most of who were wearing blaze orange. Thinking they were hunters gathering before heading out into the woods, I was surprised to find a collection of spotting scopes set up and cameras pointed towards the lake. At that point, I figured it must be the Franklin's Gull, which it was. Standing 20 yards away. The only bird in the immediate vicinity. The first bird of my [birding] day. I had the pleasure of meeting Don Mairs and, finally, Louis.
