  26. Sagebrush/Bell's Sparrow (Sage Sparrow)

    Number observed:  8

    Details

Knowing this area has a higher number of BESP, it can be difficult to separate the two species due to lighting and distance. For several it coudn't be determined whether they were one or the other, other than "Sage Sparrow". A couple birds in particular would strike us as Bell's in bad lighting, but if we couldn't get the field marks in a better position or with the lighting, we'd mark it simply as Sage Sparrow. Sometimes we weren't able to see the presence or lack of back streaking before the birds flew off. Numbers of the Sage Sparrows were really good. Often we'd hear the soft call note around us and never see them.
