10-15 degrees F, clear skies, mostly calm with slight wind out of the NW. Coastal nor'easter scraped Virginia Beach on 3-4 Jan, pounding the city with 40+mph wind gusts out of the NW & dumping up to 10+ inches of snow on the ground.

    Exact count. Photographed extensively, will post. Small bitterns showing greenish brown and white plumage. Flushed out of small patch of open trickling water. My first winter record(s)! One flushed from the edge of the open water trickle, and another pursued it up into the phragmites. The first individual stayed clinging to the phrags long enough for a lot of photographs. Incredible.
