In addition to mapping the location of focal species throughout the Americas, enter elevation and habitat data to help target specific areas for future research, acquisition, and conservation. For more information click on the above link.

When Submitting your Observations, you can enter elevation and habitat data during Step 2.

Please enter elevation if possible as this is closely linked to habitat type, especially in Central and South America. Make sure to select either meters or feet.

You are able to select one major habitat type and one ecological modifier per location (one entry), which are applied to each species on your checklist.

The first pull down habitat menu represents Major Habitat Types that are based on World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) biomes and ecoregions. This field is required. If you would like more information or to see examples of habitat types visit:

WWF's classification system
Nearctic
Neotropic

The second pull down menu called Ecological Modifiers describe successional and disturbance history often as a result of human activity. These serve to modify the major habitat types.

Please Note – We would like to generate a list of detailed habitat types that we can display as a third habitat menu in the future. During Step 4, on the Confirmation and Notes page you’ll see a comments box at the bottom of the page. Please enter a few words that describe your specific habitat type such as the dominant tree, shrub, or grass species (e.g. pine/oak forest).
