2012 Maine Birder Band

For the fourth year in a row, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is calling on birders to help support IF&W's efforts to secure a landscape that will support each of Maine's 103 bird Species of Greatest Conservation Need for future generations.

The Maine Birder Band program is intended to provide the Maine birding community an opportunity to support IF&W's non-game bird conservation efforts.  Just as hunters and anglers fund Department efforts through license purchases, birders can become a participating constituency by demonstrationg their willingness to fund non-game bird conservation.

The Maine Birder Band is available for a contribution of $20, and it can be purchased through IF&W's on-line store at www.mefishwildlife.com.  Bands are suitable for attaching to binoculars, cameras, sunglasses or any other outdoor gear.

To date, Maine Birder Band funds have supported a variety of Department lead efforts to assess declining bird populations and to collect information regarding the status of key habitat types that support these species.  Maine Birder band contributions provide a vital source of match that allows IF&W to leverage additional federal funds for non-game bird conservation.
