May 14, 2016. Global Big Day. Are you in? Are you curious about where else in the world people are taking part in Global Big Day? If so, then look no further, this page is where you want to be. Listed below are the participating organizations and birder groups by country, broken down into geographic region.

If you are inspired by the efforts below, reach out to your local bird club or conservation group to ask how you can help organize! We have some suggestions on reaching out to people, take a look at our Sharing GBD With Friends doc for more information. Try to get your friends to commit to covering different areas so that we can spread our coverage out across the landscape and give your home region the best blanket of eBirding possible. And please do let us know about the efforts you organize, either through Facebook, or if you’re going to be out birding on May 14th and don’t see your country represented below—let us know by email!

The real idea of Global Big Day is to work as a single team of birders around the world, united through eBird, working towards the common goal of understanding and conserving the birds that we all care about. We obviously expect some local competitions and rivalries to pop up, and encourage these friendly games. We are especially curious who will earn the species crown this year. Will Peru hold on to 1st place, or will Colombia or Brazil pass them to stand atop the species podium? No matter who “wins” any of these friendly competitions, we really hope that the enduring message is a celebration of the avian diversity of the world and our ability to help protect them by simple enjoying birds in the field as a part of the global eBird team.

6,158 species were reported on 38,923 complete checklists from 14,787 participants across 140 countries last year on the first Global Big Day. Can we surpass all of those numbers this year?
