The Australasian Ornithological Conference (AOC) is a biennial event for anyone interested in the study and conservation of Australasian birds. The conference provides a forum for ornithologists and conservationists to exchange research findings and to network with many of the region’s top bird researchers.

The 2017 conference will be held at Deakin University, Geelong, Victoria from 8-11 November 2017 and support is provided by Birdlife Australia and Birds New Zealand. Early-bird registration ends 14 July 2017, with abstract submission remaining open until 15 August 2017.

The program will comprise three days of talks and posters, including seven specialised symposia:

1. Avian pathogen coevolution
2. Conservation genetics
3. Evolution of Australian birds
4. Managing threatened species
5. Seabirds
6. Waterbirds and shorebirds
7. Woodland birds

Registration includes the conference dinner at Simonds Stadium, Kardinia Park—home of the Geelong Cats. In addition to the presentation program, the AOC will also be operating birding excursions to Port Philip Heads Marine National Park and Werribee’s Western Treatment Plant, a famed hotspot for local bird diversity.
